Unreel at Sundance 2016
Introducing a new video distribution platform:
Every year the epicenter of the entertainment world shifts from the Hills of Hollywood to the Mountains of Park City, Utah. The Sundance Film Festival stands as a beacon for those on the fringe of the entertainment industry looking to do something new. Change adverse Major studios tend to play it safe, preserving the status quo with what they produce. Independent filmmakers however, thrive off the prospect of taking the perilous risk of doing something new. Sundance is the place where aspiring and established filmmakers assemble to present these visionary creations.
In the tech industry we call the success of these sort of innovations, ‘disrupting an industry.’
The Sundance Film Festival is a showcase of deviceful content trying to disrupt the film industry. It is only natural then that the event serves as a convergence between those on the edge of breaking into the entertainment mainstream and those looking to enable them and disrupt the distribution industry.
Saving the world one video share at a time
Unreel was at Sundance to do just that, and we had an amazing time. With a booth in the Toyota music lodge for 5 days we had the pleasure of mingling with some truly incredible creators. We weren’t just at
Sundance for shameless self-promotion (did we mention we are the best way for content creators to own their own distribution?) Our booth teamed up to work with Earth Day Network to help reach their goal of planting a tree for every person on earth. We created and featured an Earth Day channel at our booth while accepting donations. Global video domination will be a lot easier if the world is still around in the future, so we were happy to help.
Our new BFF’s R. City
The highlight of Sundance for our team was the headline music act R. City. Best known as the artist behind the number one hit “Locked Away,” we had the opportunity to sponsor their performance and hang out with them throughout the weekend. It truly was a blast chilling with Tim and Tyrone, who despite their immense success are both fun, down to earth guys.
On Saturday night R. City rocked the Toyota music lodge on the Unreel stage after an opening performance by the super talented Jamie Bendell warmed up the house. There is no arguing the Unreel sponsored portion of Sundance was a huge success. We helped out a good cause, introduced our amazing distribution platform to content creators, hosted a jumping concert, and solidified our relationship with R. City.
